  • Andrew Goldman

    Co-Founder & CEO

    Mr. Goldman is the Co-Founder and CEO of Coalition Investment Partners.

    Prior to Coalition, he was the Founder, CIO, and Managing Partner of Seven Locks Capital Management (SLCM), an investment firm that managed funds focused on catalyst-driven investing, with an emphasis on sourcing differentiated, undiscovered, and asymmetric investment ideas opportunistically across industries and throughout the capital structure. SLCM managed in excess of $300M in assets. Prior to founding Seven Locks in 2008, Mr. Goldman was the Portfolio Manager of the U.S. value with catalyst team at Magnetar Capital, running a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of equity and credit investments and a team of six investment professionals. Mr. Goldman joined Magnetar prior to its >$1B launch in 2005, and was an active participant in the critical aspects of building the business. While at Magnetar, he also originated the idea and created the business plan for Lightfoot Capital Partners, an entity focused on incubating partnerships in the energy/infrastructure sector and providing realizable opportunities for strategic growth. After raising initial LP capital prior to launch, Mr. Goldman served on Lightfoot’s Board of Directors as it built an organization and acquired multiple operating companies. In August 2017, Lightfoot entered into an agreement to sell its General Partner to Zenith Energy, a Warburg Pincus-backed midstream energy company, for $94.5M in cash. Previously, Mr. Goldman was a Senior Analyst at Rockbay Capital, which he joined prior to launch in 2002 and helped to build from $34M in AUM at launch to over $1.2B in 2005. Prior to Rockbay, he was an Analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at UBS AG.

    Mr. Goldman graduated from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics and a concentration in Finance.

  • Adam Herz

    Co-Founder

    Mr. Herz is the Co-Founder of Coalition Investment Partners. Mr. Herz brings 20+ years of executive search and strategic advisory experience, with a core focus on fundamental investing roles across a variety of styles and assets classes.

    Prior to Coalition, he was a Partner at Westwood Partners, an advisory and executive search firm focused on financial services. Mr. Herz specialized in senior-level placements within the global alternative asset management industry, bringing his clients a breadth of human capital experience with leading hedge funds and private equity firms. Additionally, he provided capital introductions to facilitate seed investment for nascent funds and supported them through their cyclical management and growth issues. Prior to joining Westwood in 2012, he was the Founding Partner of Hunter Advisors, an executive search and advisory firm dedicated to placing and advising senior-level investment talent. While at Hunter, Mr. Herz represented a select group of top-tier hedge funds, direct investment platforms and family offices, with a special emphasis on team buildouts and new strategies. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Herz was a Senior Vice President at the Whitney Group, specializing in recruitment and advisory services within the global credit markets and the hedge fund industry, with extensive experience in event-driven, distressed, market-neutral, credit arbitrage, and multi-strategy funds. Prior to joining the Whitney Group, he was a Director at the Options Group’s capital markets practice, where he was recognized as the number one recruiter globally for two consecutive years.

    Mr. Herz graduated from Boston University with a BA in Political Science. He is the Chairman of the Board of Reut USA, a nonprofit social venture which supports the Reut Group’s work in the USA. He has also served as a Trustee of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Investment Partners

  • August Roth

    Mr. Roth is an Investment Partner at Coalition Investment Partners, focused on capital solutions in the public and private realm, across both distressed and special situations.

    He has over 15 years of institutional experience and most recently managed his family office, FCR Holdings, which invested in distressed credit, private equity, public equities, real estate, and venture capital opportunities. In 2009, Mr. Roth launched a value-oriented, high yield/distressed credit hedge fund, Hylas Capital Management. Prior to that, he was a Principal at JANA Partners, a value-oriented, event driven & activist hedge fund, from 2003 to 2009. While at JANA, Mr. Roth was responsible for idea generation and analysis of distressed credit, energy, power, and TMT investments across the capital structure. Additionally, he served on numerous creditors’ committees as well as originated and lead several successful activist investments. Mr. Roth began his career in 2001 at Salomon Smith Barney in New York, where he focused on high yield corporate credit research.

    Mr. Roth has a B.A. in History and American Studies from Cornell University (2001), where he graduated with distinction.

  • Cara Goldenberg

    Cara Goldenberg is an Investment Manager at Coalition Investment Partners, focused on capital solutions across public, private and distressed opportunities, with a focus on European/Italian markets. She has almost 20 years of investment experience, mainly in Western Europe. In 2008, Ms. Goldenberg founded Permian Investment Partners, a global long-short equity hedge fund. She served on multiple boards including EI Towers, whose acquisition by Mediaset she led in 2011. Prior to that, she served as Brahman Capital’s director of research and youngest promoted partner at 25. She began her career at Morgan Stanley in its Private Equity division, Morgan Stanley Capital Partners. In 2017 she received Columbia Business Schools Investment Management Mentorship Award, which annually recognizes an investment management professional who has exhibited outstanding investment acumen and strong mentorship within the investment management industry. Ms. Goldenberg graduated cum laude from Yale University with degree in Chemistry in 2002, and attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City.

  • Jason Maynard

    Mr. Maynard is an Investment Partner at Coalition Investment Partners, focused on equity, distressed, and private opportunities mainly in Asia. Mr. Maynard has over 20 years of institutional investment experience, with a dedicated focus on Asia for the majority of his career, and background in distressed investments.

    With a disciplined and structured approach to creating attractive entry points in growing markets, he has had success across diverse asset-classes, including distressed debt, private equity, public securities, activism and early-stage. Mr. Maynard was a Partner at Goldman Sachs, working there from 1999 to 2007, and served as Co-Head of its Asia Special Situations Group (Non-Japan). Following that, Mr. Maynard was a Co-Founder and Head of Asia at Mount Kellett Capital Management – an $8B private equity firm that he helped to grow, from 2008 to 2014. Most recently, Mr. Maynard was a Principal of the Maynard Family Office, investing his own capital with an almost exclusive focus on Asia. His earlier experience includes roles as Head of Distressed Research, Asia, at Merrill Lynch (1998), a Senior High Yield/Distressed Analyst, Asia, at Chase / Chemical Bank (from 1996 to 1997), and a U.S. based credit trading desk Analyst at Citicorp (from 1992 to 1996). Mr. Maynard began his career in Asia in 1996 as a Regional Head of Credit Research at Citicorp, Asia.

    Mr. Maynard has an A.B. in Asian Political Economy from Hamilton College, where his advisor was Dr. Cheng Li – current Director of the John L. Thornton China Center, Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, and the Director of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
